1

Mount or place the NVR in a ventilated location and connect it to your monitor via HDMI.

2

Connect the NVR's LAN port to a spare port on your router with the network cable.

3

Plug in the power supply and switch the NVR on. Connect the USB mouse.

4

On first boot, set your region to Australia and follow the activation wizard.

5

Create a strong admin password (8+ characters, mixed case and numbers).

Write the password down and store it safely — there's no easy reset on Hikvision NVRs.

6

Set the date, time and NTP server so footage timestamps are accurate.

7

Initialise the hard drive when prompted (this erases the drive).

8

Go to CameraPlug-and-Play; PoE cameras appear automatically.

9

Configure each camera's resolution and frame rate under Record settings.

10

Set a recording schedule — continuous, motion, or event-based.

Motion + event recording dramatically extends how many days your drive can store.

11

Enable Hik-Connect under NetworkPlatform Access and scan the QR code with the app.

12

Test remote viewing from your phone over mobile data to confirm it works away from home.
